What is UPI ?
UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is an instant real-time payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India.
It allows you to send money instantly from one bank to another. UPI payment system has become quite popular for sending or receiving money since 2016.
This is because of it availability round the clock, ease of use, and seamless transactions.
Uses Of UPI
Instead of IMPS/NEFT, you can use UPI to transfer money with just a 4 digit PIN. To transfer the fund through UPI, you need to create a UPI ID and a UPI PIN.
The UPI ID acts as a name or a virtual payment address for you and it is created while setting up a UPI account.
You can share the UPI ID to the person who wants to send you money. UPI PIN, is a password that needs to be set by you to authorize the transaction from a particular bank account.
To take the benefit of using UPI technology, you will need to register on a UPI-enabled apps like Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay, BHIM, Amazon Pay etc by just linking your bank account.
You need to Set up a UPI PIN while registering your account.
What is UPI PIN?
UPI PIN is a four or six digit personal identification number set by the users either at the time of registration on a UPI application or later.
You will need to input UPI PIN every time you initiate a transaction. As it allows the confirmation of a transaction, it is recommended not to share it with anyone to avoid the chances of fraud.
Process to Set up a UPI PIN:
To set up your UPI PIN, you first need to install any UPI-enabled application on your mobile phone. For instance, let’s take Paytm. Install the application on your mobile and create your own UPI profile/account and follow the steps mentioned below to set up the UPI PIN.
- Launch the Paytm app on your Android/iOS mobile phone
- Tap on the Profile icon that is at the top left corner of the screen
- Select UPI & Payment Settings from the options
- On the next screen, you will be able to view the list of bank accounts linked to your Paytm app
- If you have not added any bank account, tap add bank account option and enter the bank details
- While setting up, you will be asked to Set UPI PIN
- If you have bank accounts added and UPI PIN is not set, you will see Set PIN option under the bank account
- Click on Set PIN
- Enter the last 6 digits of your debit card number along with its expiry date
- An OTP will sent to your bank account registered mobile number
- Enter the OTP received
- Now, you need to set up the UPI PIN. Enter the PIN of your choice
- Tap Submit to confirm the UPI PIN
- After successful UPI PIN set up, you will receive a notification confirming the same
If you forgot your UPI PIN or looking to change it, you can easily reset or change the UPI PIN.
How to Change UPI PIN in PhonePe?
The process to change the UPI PIN is almost similar across all the UPI apps but the initial steps differ for each app. Let’s get to know the steps to reset UPI PIN in each app individually.
Process to change UPI PIN in PhonePe:
PhonePe is one of the most popular and widely used online payment application across India. If you are a PhonePe user and looking to change your UPI PIN, then follow the below steps.
- Launch the PhonePe app on your mobile phone
- Tap on your profile picture that is at the top left corner
- You should be able to see all the bank accounts linked to your PhonePe app
- Tap on the bank account for which you want to change the UPI PIN
- Select Change in the UPI PIN section
- Enter your old UPI PIN
- On the next screen set up new UPI PIN and re-enter it
- Confirm the new PIN and tap on the Tick button
Process to Reset UPI PIN in PhonePe:
PhonePe is an UPI application that allows you to transfer money instantly. If you have forgotten your PhonePe UPI Pin, follow the below steps to reset it.
- Open the PhonePe app on your mobile phone
- Tap on your profile picture that is at the top left corner
- You should be able to see all the bank accounts linked to your PhonePe app
- Tap on the bank account for which you want to reset the UPI PIN
- Select Reset in the UPI PIN section
- Enter the last 6 digits of your debit card and expiry date
- Enter a new UPI PIN and re-enter it to confirm
- Tap on the Tick button to confirm changes.
